In this series I will talk about 10 ways of tapping into our innate, deep, soul-
connected creativity and fertility, as discussed by the wise woman Randine Lewis in
her book The Way of the Fertile Soul. Randine puts things beautifully, so I’ll be using
many of her own words here.
As Randine says, being fertile and fruitful doesn’t apply only to giving birth to a child.
It also applies to giving birth to the self you want to be, and to a life filled with
passion, strength, joy and adventure.
Randine talks about her own struggles to conceive while in the midst of obsessions
with achievements, appearance and weight. She developed addictions, and became
more and more aware of the emptiness inside that she was desperately trying to fill
with external pursuits, including the ‘fight’ to have a child.
Change occurred when she realised that infertility, lack of vitality, and stress are
bound together, and are all symptoms of a life out of balance.
She drew on the wisdom of the Dao (the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Way of
Life), Chinese medicine, and women’s own inner wisdom, and was able to create a
deeply satisfying way of living – calm, vital, fruitful and blissful.
Eventually, in the midst of miscarriage and pregnancy complications, where it
seemed Randine would lose another baby, she was able to do what seems
impossible, and surrender and let go of the outcome. As she says: I was able to feel
a deep sense of serenity throughout that long and difficult experience, a peace that
spread to every part of life.
When Randine offered her insights to women struggling to conceive, she noticed not
only an increase in conceptions, but that it helped women move forward in all areas
of their life; from work to home life to sense of self, with higher vitality and deeper
contentment.
‘As their fierce fight to have a child lessened, the women found that they were more
capable of living a calm yet energised happy life, and they were able to more easily
fulfill their most cherished dreams. Letting go instead of resisting the way things are
proved to be the path to serenity.’
Take charge of your health. Nourish and care for your body. Release your stress,
over and over again. Unclench. The word ‘ecstasy’ comes from ex-stasis; that is, un-
blocked, free-flowing, gently wild.
I’ll be going further into the 10 ‘secrets’ in this series. We somehow know them
already…
